BUNCOMBE STREET UNITED METHODIST HIRES STUDENT MINISTRY LEAD PASTOR

GREENVILLE, SC – Buncombe Street United Methodist Church announces the hiring of John Fahrney as Student Ministry Lead Pastor.

Fahrney has been involved in student ministries for over 19 years. Prior to beginning a career as a student ministry professional, Fahrney served for two years as Chaplain for the U.S. Navy. He is originally from Fresno, California.

At Buncombe Street UMC, Fahrney will oversee the church’s Junior High and High School ministries. He will lead the church’s highly successful Sunday evening student program and plans to establish a Sunday morning worship service exclusively for students.

Fahrney brings a vibrant vision for leading active student programs at Buncombe Street. His vision for the student ministry at Buncombe Street is involvement, content and continuity.

He plans to continue the educational foundations established by Rev. Gayle Quay within the Children’s Ministry and compliment those programs by expanding opportunities for personal, moral, social and spiritual growth among the Church’s students and their families.

“The journey from adolescence to adulthood is both exciting and challenging for the students, as well as their parents,” explained Fahrney. “With God’s help, we will continue to provide programs and activities that our Church’s students will be excited about.”

The Student Ministry at Buncombe Street is active in mission work. Last year, Buncombe Street students participated in several foreign mission trips including trips to both the Bahamas and Mexico. Other community projects include serving meals at Triune Mercy Center, Adopting a Grandparent, and participating in United Ministry’s Walk For The Homeless.

Fahrney is a graduate of Bethany Bible College in Fresno, California. He and his wife, Jamie, have a 14-year-old daughter named Korrine.
